Tailored to capture teams from across the country, the Guyana National Domino Federation has partnered with Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) to stage the annual national domino competition, starting Sunday (March 31).

DDL has committed to sponsoring the competition under its popular Ivanoff Vodka. This is the second time the company has joined forces with the Federation to host the event.

Upon paying an entrance fee of G$9,000, teams would be given a bottle of the sponsor’s product.

Teams would compete in zones in Regions Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven and 10, with the top teams qualifying for the national playoffs, set for May 26 and 27. The venue is the Transports Sports Club, Thomas Lands.

The top performing teams in the regional zones will collect G$20,000, G$15,00 and G$6,000. The overall champion at the national level would receive G$300,000, while second and third would collect G$200,000 and G$100,000 respectively.

The Most Valuable Player is guaranteed G$10,000, while the player who inflict the first love in the final will get G$5,000.

At the official launch of the tournament on Thursday at DDL’s outlet at Ruimveldt, company representative Maria Munroe said they are looking to make the competition one of the main events on their sports calendar of activities.

“It is our belief that this tournament will provide players with the opportunity to compete and enhance their skills in a competitive environment. We look forward to a very exciting and well executed tournament by the Guyana National Domino Federation,” Munroe said.

Munroe also urged the players to practice good sportsmanship during the tournament.

Teams desirous of participating are asked to contact Reuben Cato on 681-0430 or Wendell McPherson on 694-8307.
