Rupununi farmer murdered by friend

Police are investigating the murder of a 35-year-old farmer of Katomarib Village, Rupununi, Region Nine.

According to information received, Reginald Thompson and the suspect, a 56-year-old farmer who is also his friend, were consuming alcohol on Wednesday and at about 16:00hrs a heated argument ensued.

Police said the suspect armed himself with an axe handle and struck the victim to the head.

Thompson was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Lethem Public Hospital where he was treated and immediately transferred to Boa Vista Hospital in Brazil.

However, at about 16:30 hours on Friday, he succumbed.

Arrangements are being made to have the body brought back to Guyana while efforts are underway to arrest the suspect.
