Businessman shot, robbed on Regent St.
A 25-year-old businessman of Durban Backlands is said to be in a stable condition at a city hospital after he was shot in the abdomen during a robbery in broad daylight on Regent Street, Georgetown.
Police Headquarters revealed that Selson Prescott was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash at around 13:30hrs opposite the Guyoil gas station by two identifiable males, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
News Room understands that the businessman was riding his motorcycle on the northern side of Regent Street proceeding east when one of the suspects dismounted his motorcycle and walked into his path.
The businessman was forced to stop when the suspect whipped out a handgun and demanded that he hand over his bag with the cash.
Prescott refused when the bandit struck him in the mouth with the gun; a scuffle then ensued, and the businessman was shot to the lower abdomen.
The suspect took the bag with money and escaped with his accomplice on a motorcycle.
Police investigations are ongoing.
