Former GWI Supervisor accused of $1.1M fraud

Dexter McKenzie, a 48-year-old former supervisor of the Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus Monday accused of defrauding the entity of over $1.1M.

McKenzie pleaded not guilty to 18 counts of fraud, which alleged that between January 2, 2018, to October 19, 2018, at GWI’s head office, at Vlissengen Road, Georgetown, he was solely entrusted by GWI with 18 Republic Bank cheques totalling $1.14M, which he converted to his own use and benefit.

McKenzie, of Sixth Street, Alberttown Georgetown and a father of three, told the court that he is now unemployed.

With no objection from Police Prosecutor Adduni Inniss, McKenzie was released on $102,000 bail; the case was adjourned to April 15, 2019.
