The body of Anael Spencer, a 40-year-old man was on Tuesday found in the Takutu River, Lethem Region 9.
Police said Spencer of St Ignatius Village resided with a cousin, 47-year-old Flavius Thomas and reportedly visits the river to bathe on a daily basis.
Thomas, a labourer, told police that Spencer normally suffers from seizures and is a heavy drinker of alcohol.
He also claimed that Spencer returned home at about 02:00hrs on Tuesday under the influence of alcohol and subsequently retired to bed. However, Thomas told police that he woke up about 06:00hrs and noticed Spencer was gone.
Thomas further related that he went to the river to have a bath where he saw Spencer’s clothes on the dam.
The body was later found in the said river and no marks of violence were seen on the exposed parts, police said.
The body is presently at the Lethem Hospital mortuary awaiting Post mortem.
