NSC targets 300 children for Easter swim camp

The National Sports Commission (NSC) will host its annual Easter Swim Camp from April 15 -26, and given the growth in the number of participants over the years, the organisers are hopeful that 300 children can learn the life skill this year.

The camp will be staged at two venues, the Colgrain Swimming Pool, Camp Street, where 180 children between ages six to 11 will train, and the National Aquatic Centre, Liliendaal, where 120 participants between ages 12 to 16 would be accommodated.

“We want them to remember outdoor activities. Back in the day when there was school vacation we were out in the playground playing football or in the trench swimming, but you find most of the young people now are on the television or on gadgets. We want to encourage them to play outside and which can help them make new friends and learn a new discipline perhaps,” Director of Sport Christopher Jones told News Room Sport when quizzed on the goals of this year’s camp.

Interested persons are asked to make contact with Desiree Cummings at the Colgrain Swimming Pool on telephone number 226-0387 or Nariane Selall at the National Aquatic Centre, on telephone number 222-1306 to learn more about the programme and how to register.

The officials will be available between 08:30h to 16:30h Mondays-Thursdays and on Friday 08:30h to 15:30h.

Since space is limited, participants will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Parents are required to present child/children birth certificates upon registering.
