Two residents from Sophia, Greater Georgetown were on Thursday remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for allegedly robbing a traffic officer.

The men, Yullacie Price and Shaheed Hollingsworth, pleaded not guilty to the joint charge.

Police claimed that on March 31, 2019, at Longden Street, Georgetown, the duo robbed traffic rank Orlando Persaud of a $50,000 cell phone and $3,000.

Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that on the day in question, at about 20:15 hrs, Persaud was walking along Longden Street when he was confronted by the two accused.

Mansfield explained that Prince choked the victim from behind while Hollingsworth took away the items mentioned.

The victim lost consciousness while the defendants made good their escape. The matter was reported to the Police and an investigation was launched, leading to the arrests.

The Prosecutor told the court that an identification parade was held and the victim pointed out Prince and Hollingsworth as the ones who attacked him.

The Chief Magistrate remanded the duo to prison until April 12, 2019.
