Ganesh Parts and General Store on Friday donated a quantity of training balls to the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU), under its BKT brand out of India.
The presentation of 40 balls was done at the company’s Robb Street location by Suresh Rampersaud, Sales Manager, in the presence of Chief Executive Officer Chatram (Roop) Persaud.
Receiving on behalf of the Union were president Peter Green and Public Relations Officer, Esan Griffith.
According to CEO Persaud, the donation is just a means of giving back to society and the development of sports in the country.
Green said the Union is grateful for the timely donation. The Union will soon embark on its Youth Development Programme around the country and the balls will be utilised for that programme.
The GRFU is also expected to launch its Under-19 League and Women’s Sevens tournament this month-end, while the National Men’s team will be in training for their International tournament against Guadeloupe later this month.
Guyana is slated to host Guadeloupe on April 27 in the RAN South Zone Championships final with the winner playing Bermuda for overall championship honours as well as the right to play the loser of the Mexico vs Cayman Islands clash in the latter half of the year for promotion into the Americas Challenge Championships.
Should Guyana defeat Guadeloupe they will host North Zone winners Bermuda, who defeated Jamaica 43-14, in May.
