Ranks of the Vigilance Police Station shot and killed 34-year-old Teon Maxwell who stabbed two policemen and attempted to escape after he was arrested for threatening his reputed wife Saturday.

Police Headquarters revealed that ranks on patrol responded to Belinda Thomas’ report at around 11:40hrs at Bareroot, East Coast Demerara (ECD) and disarmed Maxwell of a cutlass.

They took him to the Vigilance Police Station where the cops state that Maxwell whipped out a knife and injured two Subordinate Officers who tried to subdue him; in the process, Maxwell damaged several windows.

Police claim that Maxwell, still armed, entered the driver’s seat of the Force vehicle – the engine was still running – and drove off in an attempt to escape when he crashed into another Force vehicle in the compound; during that process, he was shot.

He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and was pronounced dead on arrival.

The injured ranks, a Sergeant and a Corporal have received medical attention.

“A thorough investigation has been launched; so far a number of statements have been obtained,” Police Headquarters said.
