Murder accused dies after beating at Lusignan prison
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder of 30-year-old Shaheed Ali of Albouystown, Georgetown, who was reportedly beaten by prisoners in Bay 1 of the Lusignan Prison, East Coast Demerara.
Police Headquarters revealed that Ali died at the Georgetown Public Hospital Friday night hours after undergoing surgery for a fractured skull.
News Room understands that Ali was beaten on April 2 and was a patient at the hospital up until his death Friday night.
His body is at the hospital mortuary awaiting a Post Mortem Examination (PME).
Ali was on remand for a murder committed in 2014 in Albouystown.
