False bomb threat delays Copa flight at CJIA

One hundred and twenty-seven passengers along with six crew members were on Monday evacuated from a Copa Airlines flight after a report of an explosive device aboard the aircraft at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri.

The airline in a statement on Monday evening reported that all of the passengers and crew members are safe.

Copa noted that an alarm was raised just prior to the scheduled 14:24 hrs departure of Flight 255 from CJIA.

The airline immediately activated security protocols following which passengers and crew were disembarked for inspection. Ranks of the Guyana Police Force bomb-disposal unit launched a search of the aircraft and after confirming no explosive device was found, the alarm was determined to be false.

Following their clearance, Flight 255 departed at 17:42 hrs, arriving at Tocumen International Airport in Panama City at 20:44 hrs (local time).
