U-17 CRICKET: Seepersaud, Ramraj star in dominant Demerara victory

Andre Seepersaud and Chanderpaul Ramraj were the standout players for Demerara who overpowered Berbice by nine wickets in the first round of the Inter-County Under-17 tournament at Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Monday.

With his off-spin, Seepersaud befuddled his way to figures of 3-6 in 5.1 overs, then stroked a compact and unbeaten 31 (3x4s). Ramraj, who is also the captain, got prodigious turn with his left-arm spin to snare 4-7 in six overs.

Marvan Prashad top-scored for Berbice with 31 (1×4; 2x6s) from 56 balls. It was an innings which had great solidity, until Ramraj trapped him on the pads.

Zeynul Ramsammy came up next on the charts with 13. Berbice lost their last six wickets for just eight runs and were ousted in 29.1 overs.

Set a meager target of 67, Demerara achieved the mark with 22 overs to spare, thanks to Seepersaud who showed great intent.  Opener Ronaldo Mohamed carried his bat for dogged 14, while Matthew Nandu was the man dismissed for 11.

The tournament continues on Tuesday with Demerara and Essequibo clashing at GCC and Berbice against Select National U-15 team at Everest.

The final round is on Wednesday with Demerara facing the U-15s at Everest and Berbice battling Essequibo at GCC. All matches are scheduled to start at 09:30h.
