Motorcyclist killed in Canal #2 accident

An accident between a car and a motorcycle on the Canal #2 public road, West Bank Demerara Monday night has claimed the life of 47-year-old Neil Nunes, who was the driver of the motorcycle CJ 8132.

Police Headquarters revealed that the pillion rider 35-year-old Nichola Garnette is in a stable condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Police reported that the 30-year-old driver of the car, PVV 1097 of Belle West, Canal #2, was tested negative for alcohol and is in police custody.

The motorcycle following the accident

News Room understands that at around 18:45hrs, the driver of the car was proceeding west along the southern carriageway of the road when it collided with motorcycle CJ 8132 which was proceeding in the opposite direction.

The cyclist and pillion rider, both of Belle West, sustained multiple injuries about their bodies and were taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where they were treated and transferred to the GPHC.

Nunes succumbed to his injuries about 02:00hrs Tuesday.

The body of Nunes is presently at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination.
