Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Monday released a 29-year-old mechanic on $350,000 bail for the offence of causing death by dangerous driving.

Leroy Bagenot of Kuru-Kuru, Linden/Soesdyke Highway pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on November 7, 2018, at Friendship Public Road, East Bank Demerara, he drove motor lorry GXX 1162 in a dangerous manner to the public and caused the death of Mohammed Kalamadeen.

It is alleged that Bagenot lost control of the truck and swerved into the other lane when he collided with the truck that Kalamadeen was driving.

Kalamadeen was rushed to the Diamond Hospital and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on December 10, 2018.

Bagenot was represented by Attorney-at-law Maxwell McKay.

Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield made no objection to bail but asked that conditions are attached.

The accused was ordered to report to the Grove Police Station every Friday. The matter is adjourned until April 30, 2019.
