Young construction worker killed in 3-vehicle smash-up

Two drivers are in Police custody following the death of 20-year-old Mahendra Ryan Deokie, a construction worker of Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara (EBD), who died early Monday after the car he was driving crashed into two other vehicles on the Land of Canaan Public Road, EBD.

Police Headquarters revealed that at around 04:30hrs, the young man was driving motorcar PPP 972 south along the eastern side of the road at a fast rate of speed when he lost control and ended up across the western side and collided with the right side rear wheel of motor Jeep PKK 1555.

The car continued skidding and then collided with the front right side of Minibus BWW 5216.

The car had three occupants, one of whom was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further treatment.

Police said that Deokie was taken out of the car in an unconscious state and died while receiving treatment at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre.
