It was a chaotic scene at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court Wednesday morning when the woman accused of killing her mother was brought to court.

Before the matter was called, the woman – 42-year-old Camila Jameer – was heard wailing loudly from the briefing room at the Court and as she was brought to face the charges she fainted.

The presiding Magistrate, Rabindranauth Singh, asked the Police Officer to take her back into the briefing room and placed the court on recess for five minutes.

When the matter was called for the second time, the woman continued crying.

The Magistrate told the court he would only take the swearing of evidence from the Police but would not read the charge of murder to the woman, given her condition.

On that note, he told the officers present to take Jameer for medical attention.

She was then lifted out of the courtroom by three Police Officers.

At the court, family members gathered were seen crying as the events unfolded.

On Friday, April 12th, Jameer allegedly murdered her 71-year old mother Rookmin Jameer, a Pensioner of Tempie Village, West Coast Berbice.

She subsequently admitted to detectives that she cut her mother’s throat after she was accused of theft.

The News Room was reliably informed that the accused, in her confession, told the Police that she and her mother got into a heated argument during which she grabbed a knife and slashed her throat in a fit of rage.

Given the circumstances, it is unclear when the matter will be called again.

The woman is currently at the Fort Wellington Hospital.
