A 35-year-old minibus driver walked out of the Demerara Sexual Offences Court a free man after a 12-member jury unanimously found him not guilty of raping of a 9-year-old girl on September 20, 2017

Vishnu Persaud was on trial before Justice Brassington Reynolds at the High Court. The reported incident occurred at Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara.

Persaud was represented by Attorney-at-law Bernard DaSilva while the State’s case was presented by Prosecutors Lisa Cave and Seeta Bishundial.

Justice Reynolds told Persaud to consider the verdict a second chance to change his life.

“Only God above us knows what transpired,” the Judge said as he told Persaud that he was free to go.
