Father of two killed in Berbice hit and run
Stanley Bronne, a 33-year-old father of two, died Tuesday morning after he was struck down by a speeding car on the Number 11 Public Road, East Berbice Corentyne.
News Room understands that the young father was waiting to cross the road at around 10:45hrs when a white Toyota Allion car, bearing registration number PTT 8022, heading west, struck and dragged him 150 feet.
Police Headquarters, however, said that Bronne emerged from behind a parked lorry which was on the northern side of the road and the driver alleged that he swerved south to avoid a collision when his right side vehicle collided with Bronne.
Residents are however claiming that there was no parked lorry where the accident occurred.
Bronne’s mother, Tajkumarie Bronne told the News Room that the driver did not stop to render assistance to her badly injured son.
As a matter of fact, a relative along with an off duty policeman pursued the driver and eventually cornered him at Percy Street Number Two Village, East Canje.

He was arrested and remains in Police custody.
My son died, I hurt a lot. He hit my son and go away; he is a beast,” the mother told News Room.
However, the driver claimed that he was chased by residents with cutlasses which caused him to drive away from the scene.
But residents and the man’s family denied this.
The family is calling for a thorough investigation into the accident.
Bronne was on his way to the shop to purchase an item for his family when he met his demise.
He was employed as a fisherman and leaves to mourn his wife and two young children including a two-month-old.
He died at the New Amsterdam Hospital while receiving treatment.
Police said the driver, of Block X Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, tested negative for alcohol in his system.
