Update: One dead, woman critical after speeding drunk driver crashes into fence

An accident which occurred around 1:00am Thursday at La Jalousie, West Coast Demerara has left 31-year-old Nafeeza Ibrahim in a critical condition at the West Demerara Regional Hospital and 21-year-old Vickram ‘Andy’ Ramraj Lot 85 Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo dead.

The car, PSS 9367, was being driven at a fast rate by 20-year-old Zahid Rahaman known as ‘Boy’ also from Tuschen Housing Scheme.

Rahaman was found to be over the legal alcohol limit, Police Headquarters said in a statement.

After Ramraj was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital he was then transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at approximately 05:15am.

Ibrahim is currently being treated at the West Demerara Regional Hospital, while the driver was treated and sent away.

The driver is currently in police custody assisting with the investigation.

The car was proceeding east along the northern carriageway of the public road when it reportedly swerved south off the road colliding with a concrete fence at a house in La Jalousie.
