The Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) on Wednesday held a workshop for both public and private sector businesses aimed at increasing the visibility and understanding of the benefits of international standards to their development and export potential.

The workshop was held in collaboration with the Commonwealth Standards Network (CSN).

Head of Marketing and Communications of the GNBS, Syeid Ibrahim, in his remarks at the opening of the workshop, noted that building upon the Commonwealth advantage can trigger significant additional economic gains to Guyana and local businesses.

He explained that International standards play an important role in promoting productivity and efficiency, reducing costs, removing barriers to trade, and driving economic growth.

The workshop was conducted by: Technical standardization expert Mr Glenn Bosmans representing the CSN, Mr Peter Sissons Head of International Engagement British Standard Institution (BSI), and MS. Andrea Mendonca Technical Officer II Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS).

This collaboration started at the 2018 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting when the United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister announced the establishment of the Commonwealth Standards Network (CSN) to tackle non-tariff barriers and promote strong trade amongst all Commonwealth states through the participation, adoption and implementation of international standards.
