Shooting at Durban St: Taxi driver critical, passerby shot in back

A 35-year-old taxi driver, identified as Marlon Rodney, is in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was shot in his left leg Thursday during an argument with two men at the corner of Durban Street and Mandela Avenue.

A passerby, identified as 24-year-old Shaquille Dion of Durban Street, was also shot in the process, Police Headquarters revealed in a statement.

News Room understands that Dion was shot in the back but was discharged from the hospital at around 13:00hrs Friday.

According to the Police report, Rodney of Norton Street had a misunderstanding with two men known as ‘Dabo’ and ‘Curl Up’ at around 9:45hrs.

It is alleged that both ‘Dabo’ and ‘Curl Up’ were armed and discharged their weapons at Rodney who was struck in the left leg, while the passerby was also wounded.

“The root cause of the incident is still unknown at this time Stringent efforts are being made to have the suspects apprehended soonest,” Police Headquarters said Friday.
