Estate employee battling for life after crushed by GuySuCo fire tender

Ganesh Roberts, a 51-year-old labourer is battling for his life in the Intensive Care Unit(ICU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital after a fire tender attached to the Albion sugar Estate reversed and crashed into him on Friday.

The incident occurred at approximately 06:45hrs at the Estate Field Workshop.

The News Room understands that Roberts of Ramphal Street Belvedere, Corentyne Berbice, suffered seven broken ribs, a broken shoulder along with serious injuries to his lungs and other parts of his body.

At the time of the incident, Roberts was sweeping a section of the Estate.

His son, who also works at the Estate, told the News Room that he was in close proximity when he noticed a crowd and then observed his father “fold up” under the vehicle.

The severely injured man was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital and subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he is in a critical condition.

The family of Roberts expressed disappointment that the driver responsible for the accident has not yet reached out to the family to offer assistance.

When contacted, a representative of GuySuCo confirmed the incident and noted an investigation has been launched.
