Speeding driver dies, passenger hospitalised in East Coast accident
A 37-year-old man of Kitty, Georgetown was last night killed in an accident on the Rupert Craig Highway in the vicinity of Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Police said Lakeram Singh, who worked as an Office Assistant at Ryan’s mining company, was driving his motorcar #PLL4706 east along the northern carriageway allegedly at a fast pace.
At about 23:00hrs while negotiating a turn, Singh reportedly lost control of the motorcar and veered north into a nearby drain where the vehicle toppled several times before coming to a halt.
Also in the vehicle was 20-year-old Rakesh Ramsaroop, who works as a Customer Service Representative at Qualfon communications and resides at Non Pariel, ECD.
They were picked up and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where Singh was pronounced dead on arrival while Ramsaroop was admitted to the Accident and Emergency ward of the institution.
Police are continuing their investigations.
