Corona Futsal: Sparta, Bent St in action on opening night

High octane action is expected at the National Gymnasium on Saturday evening

The much anticipated Corona Futsal tournament kicks-off Saturday and two of the favoured teams in Sparta Boss and Bent Street will be in action at the National Gymnasium.

Bent Street play the night’s final match against GT Panthers from 23:15h while Sparta is in action from 22:30h against Black Pearl.

Wolves United and Tucville will start the proceedings from 19:30h followed by Northern Rangers and North East La Penitence at 20:15h.

Leopold Street faces Flamingo from 21:00h and Back Circle up against Camptown from 21:45h.

The 24-team tournament comes as another partnership with Top Brandz Distributors and Petra Organisation and the first 12 matches will be contested on a straight knock out basis. The second round of elimination is May 7.

The other teams are Pele, California Square, Georgetown Football Club, West Front Road, Broad Street, Mocha, Order & Discipline, Future Stars, Beacons, Sophia, Eastveldt and Tiger Bay.

The remaining twelve will be placed into three groups of four. Top two teams along with best three third-place finishers advance.

Round robin action commences May 11 and the final is slated for June 8.

The tournament will have eight playing dates and the only change might come on May 25 depending on the prevailing circumstances.

For teams who win their group, they will be awarded $40,000, second ($30,000), third ($15,000) and fourth ($10,000), as an added incentive to increase decisive play even in group matches.

The championship prize stands at $500,000. Second to fourth pocket $250,000, $150,000 and $75,000 respectively. Most Valuable Player and a lucky fan are also expected to be rewarded handsomely.
