Two men who are accused of a robbery spree in Georgetown were remanded to prison Friday by Magistrate Leron Daly on charges of armed robbery.

Rex Blanche, 35 and Michael York, 19, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty to eight armed robbery charges.

The first set of charges alleged that the duo on April 26, 2019, at Promenade Gardens, Middle Street, Georgetown, while being in the company of others and armed with a gun, robbed Simone Wickham, Marcel Wickham, Amanda Ramcharran, Shawn Ramdial, Tashana Sanchar of a number of items totalling $606,000.

It is alleged that the duo, while being armed with a firearm, on April 29, 2019, at Garnett Street, Kitty, robbed Orin Hamilton of $5,000 cash along with a cell phone valued $70,000.

The court heard that on the same day at Light Street and North Road, Georgetown, the duo while being armed with guns, robbed Akemo Roberto Dasilva of a $113,000 cell phone.

Blanche was represented by Attorney-at-law George Thomas while York was unrepresented.

Attorney Thomas told the court that his client suffers from hypertension and diabetes and is a taxi driver.

Police prosecutor Sanj Singh opposed to the duo being released on bail citing the serious nature of the offences and the penalty they attract. They were remanded to prison until May 31, 2019.
