An accident on the Garden of Eden public road, East Bank Demerara late Sunday night has left 34-year-old Michael Cozier of Charlestown, Georgetown dead and several others injured while the driver is in hiding.
News Room understands that the driver, who is yet to be identified, was speeding south along the eastern side of the road in a route 42 minibus, BXX 3014 when he lost control and crashed into a trench on the western side of the road at approximately 22:50hrs.
The seven passengers, including a 43-year-old Police Constable stationed at the Mocha Outpost, were taken out of the minibus by public-spirited persons and rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where Cozier was pronounced dead on arrival. The driver fled the scene and left the injured passengers inside the minibus.
The Police Constable – Linden Charles – and another passenger identified as 23-year-old Benjamin – were transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital as a result of their injuries.
News Room understands that Constable Charles suffered spinal injuries while Benjamin is nursing a fractured right hand along with other injuries.
The other passengers were treated and sent away as the Police continue the search for the driver.
