Twenty-year-old Althea Douglas is in Police custody after she was caught attempting to smuggle marijuana inside ‘Blue Soap’ to her fiancé at the Lusignan Prison, East Coast Demerara Tuesday.
Director of Prisons (ag) Gladwin Samuels told reporters that the incident occurred just after 15:30hrs.
He said Douglas was at the time preparing to visit her fiancé, who is currently in the Holding Bay, when alert officers on duty conducted a detailed search on the soaps and found the marijuana concealed therein.
Police weighed the contraband which amounted to 19 grams.
“Things are not always as they seem. The public is hereby warned again to desist from smuggling prohibited items into the prison as they are serious consequences to such actions,” the Prison Director said.
