Father of 13 remanded on drug trafficking charge

Ruby Kurt, a father of 13, was remanded to prison Tuesday by y Magistrate Leron Daly for allegedly trafficking over nine kilograms of cannabis.

Kurt of Kuru-Kuru, Linden/Soesdyke Highway, pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on May 3, 2019, at Sheriff Street, Georgetown he had 9 kilograms 596 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

Attorney Siand Dhurjon made an application for bail and told the court that his client is a vendor and is the sole breadwinner for his family.

The lawyer argued that his client was a passenger in a taxi, which was stopped by the Police and the suspected cannabis was found in its trunk.

The Police Prosecutor, however, told the court that Kurt admitted ownership of the cannabis.

He was remanded to prison until May 10.
