Tishan Heywood, a 29-year-old miner was on Thursday sentenced to four years imprisonment by Senior Magistrate Leron Daly for trafficking over 125 pounds of cannabis.
Heywood of Albert Streets, Alberttown, Georgetown was on trial at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard that on December 6, 2017, at Alberttown, Heywood had 56 kilograms 700 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking. He was represented by at Attorney-at-law Glenn Hanoman and Everton Singh-Lammy.
The matter was prosecuted by Police Officer Richard Harris.
According to reports, the Police had long suspected that Heywood was a drug trafficker; during a stakeout, they observed him removing three “salt bags” from a car.
They moved in just as Heywood was stashing the bags containing the drugs inside a chicken pen in his yard.
