A 29-year-old Police Constable attached to the Guyana Police Force on Monday appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan charged with assaulting and using threatening language against his wife.

Eon Jacobs known as ‘Doggie’ of Middle Road La Penitence, pleaded not guilty to the two charges.

Particulars of the first charge alleged that on February 23, 2019, at Vlissengen Road, Kitty, the officer assaulted Amanda Jacobs.

It is further alleged that on the same day and location, Jacobs used obscene language towards his wife.

Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that on the day in question the couple were at the Mashramani Day parade along Vlissengen Road, Kitty, when they got into an argument and Jacobs became abusive.

It is alleged that the victim attempted to walk away when Jacobs himself with a piece of wood and pelted the victim; she was hit to the foot.

The Police Prosecutor did not object to bail and the Chief Magistrate released Jacobs on self-bail. The matter is adjourned until May 20.
