4 years jail for vendor who sexually assaulted girl, 13
A 61-year-old fruit vendor was on Wednesday sentenced to four years imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl with a disability.
Octavious Williams was on trial before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, where the matter was held in camera.
Williams is charged for engaging in sexual activity with a child under the age of 16 on January 31, 2019, in Georgetown. He had pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The matter was prosecuted by Inspector Neville Jeffers while Williams was represented by attorney-at-law Tiffany Jeffery.
The Chief Magistrate on Wednesday ruled that a sufficient case was made out against Williams and sentenced him to four years imprisonment.
According to reports, Williams went to the victim’s home, took her to the back of the yard and allegedly committed the act.
The victim’s father came home and caught Williams as he was putting his pants back on.
Williams is a second-time offender and was charged in 2016 with a similar offence.
