Mootoo, Singh steer Demerara to 50-over title

Daniel Mootoo starred with the ball and Sachin Singh produced with the bat to lead Demerara to victory in the final of the Hand-in-Hand Inter-county Under-19, 50-over competition against Berbice at the GCC ground, Bourda, on Sunday.

Batting first after winning the toss, Berbice made 115; Demerara, in reply, coasted to 116-5 in 28 overs.

Kevlon Anderson topscored for Berbice with 33 and Seon Glasgow made 21, as Man-of-the-Match Mootoo grabbed 4-32. Ashmead Nedd and Joel Spooner picked up two wickets each.

Demerara’s reply was led by Sachin Singh’s 48 off 43 balls (4x6s, 2x4s), with support from Alphius Bookie with 30 off 48.

At the presentation ceremony which followed the game, Demerara received the 50-over trophy, while Berbice received the Three-day trophy. Several players were also rewarded for individual excellence.

Individual awards went to:

  • Junior Sinclair – Most Valuable Player (374 runs, 11 wickets, four dismissals)
  • Junior Sinclair- Most runs (374)
  • Kelvin Umroa- Most wickets (26)
  • Mavendra Dindyal- Most dismissals (5)
