$200M for new Central Ruimveldt Well, replace asbestos mains

Government Parliamentarians on Thursday voted to approve the spending of $200 for a new well at Central Ruimveldt in Georgetown.

The funding was approved under the Ministry of Communities.

Minister Ronald Bulkan said the project will allow for the replacement of trunk mains along Church Street and installation of mains in Albouystown.

He explained that the Central Ruimveldt Water Treatment Plan does not have the capacity to serve the communities of West Ruimveldt, Alexander Village, South Ruimveldt and surrounding areas on a 24-hour basis. The new well will provide that capacity, Bulkan stated.

The transmission and distribution main project in Albouystown will complement an ongoing project to remove old asbestos mains.

The replacement of the Church Street mains is critical since maintenance effort has failed to preserve this more than100-year old system, which suffers from frequent disruption.

It includes over 500 service connections to households.
