Government Parliamentarians Thursday afternoon voted to approve $48 million to the Guyana Police Force for the handling, transport and disposal of bodies.

This is a supplementary provision since $64 million was already voted for in this year’s budget.

Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan said the Police Force experienced an increase in the number of bodies it has had to handle over the years. He said it is difficult to foresee how many bodies the Force will need to handle.

He said the funds also cover debts to funeral parlours, namely Lykens and Niamatali, going back as far back at 2012.

As such, he said the additional sums became necessary.
