Police are investigating the death of 18-year-old Kareema Mary Cholmondeley who was run over by a car on the Turkeyen Railway Embankment Wednesday night.
Police Headquarters revealed in a statement that the teenager’s 42-year-old reputed husband told the Police that they were having an argument when she threw herself onto the roadway just before she was run over by motorcar PJJ 5884.
Cholmondeley of BB GEC Scheme, Hugh Ghanie Park, Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The incident occurred at around 22:30hrs.
According to the Police, the driver of the car said that he was proceeding west along the southern side of the road and observed a male pushing a bicycle on the said side of the road and as he was about to pass him, he observed someone lying on the roadway but because of the short distance, the vehicle ran over the individual.
Both the reputed husband and the driver are in custody assisting with the investigation; the driver passed a breathalyzer test.
