Government Parliamentarians Thursday afternoon voted to approve $489 million to cater for additional works to complete the East Coast Demerara Highway.
Minister of Public Infrastructure David Patterson said the deadline for the completion of the project is still September this year. Over $2.2 billion was already budgeted for the project in this year’s budget.
Patterson said the new funds will cater for the installation of street lights and traffic lights at seven intersections along the highway.
He said the only major structure left to be completed for the road at Montrose, and this is expected to be completed in July.
The additional funds, Patterson said, covers the widening of the road from Annandale (where the four-lane highway ends) to Belfield.
Patterson said that 75% of the project is now complete.
