Cyclist critical after struck down by Joint Services rank

Police are investigating an accident which left 57-year-old pedal cyclist Ramlackhan Rup of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD) with severe head injuries and unconscious at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Initial investigation revealed that Rup along with another cyclist, 19-year-old Saif Khan of 201 6th Street Success, E.C.D were struck down by motor car PRR 7815 driven by a 33-year-old Corporal of the Joint Services.

The incident occurred at about 05:15hours on Vryheids Lust Railway Embankment, E.C.D on Saturday.

The men were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where Khan was treated and sent away while Rup, who received a head injury, is in an unconscious condition at the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit.

A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver and he was found above the legal limit.
