A 37-year-old miner appeared before Chief Magistrate (ag) Sherdel Isccas-Marcus charged with the murder of his friend Erick Nurse called ‘Black-Boy.’
Lexroy Garraway known as ‘Bam-Bam’ of Enterprise, Lower Pomeroon, was not required to plea to the capital offence at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that on May 22, 2019, at Takutu Landing, Puruni Road, Mazaruni River, Garraway stabbed Nurse to death.’
Police Prosecutor Shellon Daniels told the court that on the day in question the two were at a shop at Takutu Landing consuming alcohol when Garraway allegedly went into the living quarters of a female employee and hid.
According to the Prosecutor, the female became startled upon entering the room and raised an alarm when Nurse went to her rescue.
The court heard that Nurse pulled Garraway out of the room and an argument ensued during which the accused stabbed him several times about the body.
Nurse was discovered lying in a pool of blood and was rushed to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Garraway was later arrested and allegedly confessed that he stabbed Nurse because he tore his shirt.
He was remanded to prison until June 5, 2019, and the matter will be recalled at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
