The highly favoured Sparta Boss and the menacing West Front Road have been booted from the Corona Futsal tournament following quarter-final action on Monday evening at the National Gymnasium.

Former champions Sparta Boss and Tiger Bay produced a match that lived on a knife’s edge. Tiger Bay went up three via conversions from Deon Alfred in the 22nd and 24th, followed immediately by Isiah Andrew.

Sparta were reeling and their most decorated player Gregory Richardson reduced the lead in the 25th and was backed up by the experienced Eusi Phllips.

In the space of four minutes five goals were scored and the match became dicey.  Leon Gravesande then increased the lead for Tiger Bay in the 28th.

Jeremey Garrett found some late respite for Sparta with a strike in the 29th. Too little too late.

Future Stars lived up to their name and got the better of West Road on penalty kicks after regulation time produced 2-2 result. Stars won 3-2 on penalty kicks.

Randel Bowman (20th) and Daniel Ross (17th) netted for Stars, while Andy Duke (9th) and Colin Nelson (19th) were on the sheets for West.

One of two lopsided contests of the night was former champions Bent Street whipping California Square 4-1.

Sheldon Holder opened the scores in the 10th followed by Pernell Schultz with the first of his double in the 14th then 17th. Daniel Wilson added further misery in the 20th. Meshaka Barrat had scored for California.

Back Circle eased to a 5-2 victory over North East La Penitence led by Trayon Bobb with a hat-trick. The semi-finals will be contested on Saturday (June 1). Future Stars face Bent Street, while Tiger Bay play Back Circle.

The championship prize stands at $500,000. Second to fourth pocket $250,000, $150,000 and $75,000 respectively.
