Minister of Social Cohesion with responsibility for Sport, Dr. George Norton, on Wednesday afternoon gave the assurance that Guyana remains an integral part of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

On Tuesday, CPL announced the 2019 tournament fixtures with the scheduled Guyana Amazon Warriors five home games and the Eliminator and Qualifier One to be staged at a venue ‘To Be Confirmed’.

In a statement from the Ministry, Dr. Norton said that there is absolutely no need for persons to panic over the delayed fixture of matches for the Guyana National Stadium, as the tournament will see games being played here.

A similar situation occurred in 2018 when the fixtures were released without games for Guyana. However, when the agreements were finally signed, Guyana was able to secure, for the first time ever, two playoff games, in addition to the Warriors five home games.

“There can be no CPL tournament where Guyana is not a host country. Cricket is part of who we are. In addition to having one of the best teams in the tournament, we have some of the most passionate and loyal cricket fans,” Minister Norton pointed out.

Minister Norton is urging fans to be patient and not get deterred by some of the negativity being peddled on social media.

“CPL will be played here,” Dr. Norton reassured.

CPL 2019 is set for September 4 to October 12.
