4 years jail, $25M fine each for cocaine in frozen fish

Two men were on Monday sentenced to four years imprisonment and fined $25M each for shipping 20 pounds of cocaine in frozen fish at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) in 2018.

Businessman Amir Ally, 30, of Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara, and truck driver, Baldeo Persaud, 32, of Kingston Street, ‘C’ Field, Leonora, West Coast Demerara were convicted and jailed by City Magistrate Leron Daly.

They were found guilty of trafficking 9.366 kilograms of cocaine at Laparkan Cargo Shed, CJIA on February 6, 2018.

Ally was said to be the shipper and Persaud was the canter truck driver who transported boxes with cocaine stuffed frozen fish to the cargo shed at the airport.

During the search, the ranks found a quantity of cocaine stashed in frozen fish that was destined for the USA.
