More blackouts as GPL submarine cable de-energized

0

Several communities in Georgetown, the East Bank and the West Bank of Demerara are without electricity as the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) Inc. is investigating the “a fault” to its submarine cable which links its Kingston, Georgetown and Vreed-en-Hoop Stations.

“While investigations are ongoing, the cable remains de-energized. As a result of this, the normal transfer of power from our Vreed-en-Hoop to Kingston Stations for further distribution into rest of the Demerara Berbice Interconnected System is hindered because this is the only link between the two stations. This has resulted in a generation deficit on the Eastern sections of Demerara and Berbice, thus, necessitating a load shedding exercise today,” GPL noted in a statement on its Facebook page.

The following areas are presently affected:

GEORGETOWN

Prashad Nagar, Kitty, Campbellville, Subryanville, Vlissingen Rd, Bel Air Park, Queenstown & Alberttown

EAST BANK DEMERARA

Buss – Bee Dam to Providence and Garden of Eden to Craig

WEST DEMERARA

La Retraite to Vriesland
