A 21-year-old man appeared before Chief Magistrate (ag) Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus Tuesday charged with the murder of gold miner, 30-year-old Gordel Joseph.

Clinton Allen, also a gold miner, was not required to plea to the indictable charge which alleged that between May 30 – 31st, 2019 at Kamarang, Cuyuni-Mazaruni Region Seven, he stabbed the victim.

Police prosecutor Shellon Daniels told the court that both parties are known to each other and were involved in a brawl two years ago during which Joseph had wounded Allen.

The court heard that on May 30th, 2019, Allen and Joseph were at a bar at Kamarang Landing consuming alcohol but the victim subsequently left when he was confronted by Allen through a street.

Prosecutor Daniels told the court that Allen broke a Corona beer bottle and used it to stab Joseph to his neck and head. Joseph’s body was discovered the next day.

Allen was remanded to prison and the case was transferred to the Kamarang Magistrate’s Court for June 17th.
