    The Civil Defence Commission is investigating the eruption of natural gas in Kumaka Region One Barima-Waini following the drilling of a Well by a Brazilian company.

    Director General (ag) of the CDC, Salim October told the News Room Tuesday during a telephone interview that a drilling exercise was done Monday by a Brazilian company.

    “The drilling activity occurred yesterday [Monday] and the remnants of it were discovered early this morning,” Welcome told the News Room.

    He could not say who the Brazilian company is working for at this time.

    Meanwhile, on his Facebook page the CDC Director, Lieutenant Colonel Kester Craig said that the National Emergency Monitoring System (NEMS) is currently monitoring the situation.

    “Several agencies which include the Guyana Water Inc (GWI), Environmental Protection Agency and the Hydromet Department have been contacted to conduct an assessment,” the CDC Director noted.

    He further noted that the Regional Environmental Officer is headed to the area to conduct an assessment.
