Woman remanded for marijuana inside Panty Liner box

Shaffen Donette, a 35-year-old resident of Mahdia, Region 8, was remanded to prison Monday by Chief Magistrate (ag) Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus for allegedly trafficking 220 grams of cannabis in a Kotex Panty liner box.

Donette pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on June 8 2019, at Three Miles, Mahdia, she had the illegal substance in her possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Prosecutor Shellon Daniels told the court that on the day in question, Donette was a passenger in a bus which was stopped and searched by the Police.

The Prosecutor explained that the Police conducted a search on Donette’s belongings and found seven transparent packages suspected to be cannabis hidden inside of a Kotex Panty liner box which she had in her handbag.

The Prosecutor objected to the accused being released on bail citing the seriousness of the charge.

She was remanded to prison until July 15, 2019.
