Police say Mazaruni mechanic broke into woman’s home and raped her

A 46-year-old mechanic was on Thursday hauled before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for allegedly raping a 36-year-old woman.

Odingo Emmanuel, called Dingo of Upper Mazaruni River was not required to plea to the charge which was read in camera.

It is alleged that on August 11, 2018, Emmanuel raped the woman.

He was released on $250,000 bail and the matter was transferred to the Kamarang Magistrate’s court for June 25, 2019.

According to reports, on the day in question, the victim was out with her friends consuming alcohol at a club.

When she returned home, she saw the door was broken and upon checking she found Emmanuel in her bedroom.

It is alleged that Emmanuel threw the woman onto the bedroom floor and raped her. The victim fought back and dug her fingernails into Emmanuel and screamed for help.

Four minutes into the act, the victim’s reputed husband came home and grabbed Emmanuel, who managed to escape from the house.

A report was made to the police and Emmanuel was arrested and charged.
