Suranie Singh, 38, of Timehri, East Bank Demerara (EBD) appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, accused of stealing $5.1M worth in gold and diamond jewellery from her employer.

Singh, a domestic worker, pleaded not guilty to the charge alleged that between May 1 and June 11, 2019, at Houston, EBD, she stole the items from Deomattie Singh.

The accused was represented by Attorney-at-law Paula DaSantos, who in arguing for bail, said Singh is the sole breadwinner for four minor children.

The Attorney explained that all employees at the house are subjected to a security search and none of the jewellery was found on her client.

Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh made no objection to bail but requested that conditions are attached.

Magistrate Daly released the woman on $250,000 bail with the condition that she report to the Ruimveldt Police Station every Monday. The matter is adjourned until July 26, 2019.
