Chaos broke out in front of the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Monday afternoon as Police discharged several rounds in the air when two men accused of robbery escaped from the Police vehicle while being taken into the court compound.
Navin Ally, 24 and Ceon Ray, 24 were nabbed by Police and public-spirited person minutes after their escape.
Charges will be filed against the men for attempting to escape custody.
Harris was apprehended at the Kitty Bus Park while Ray was nabbed at Lombard Street, Georgetown.
In Court, Ally declined to speak on the incident, while Ray claimed he did not escape.
According to Ray, he and Ally were handcuffed together and upon arrival at the court, the other man picked the handcuff and escaped.
The duo was charged for allegedly robbing Tyrell Chu of a quantity of items amounting to $17,000 on June 15, 2019, at Kingston, Georgetown.
It is further alleged that on the same day and location, the duo robbed Ishan Singh of a cellphone and cash valued $56,500.
Ally, of Alberttown, pleaded guilty to both charges and was sentenced to two and a half years imprisonment.
Meanwhile, Ray, of Albouystown, pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison until June 24.
Police Prosecutor Quinn Harris told the court that on June 15, 2019, the victims were at the Kingston seawall having lunch when they were confronted by the two accused.
Harris explained that men told the couple “don’t move or we gon shoot” and took away the items mentioned in the charge.
The men made good their escape and the victims raised an alarm. A nearby police patrol responded and this led to the arrest of the two defendants.
The prosecution disclosed that the couple’s stolen articles were recovered in the two men’s possession.
