Suspect arrested in Corentyne fatal stabbing

Berbice Police have arrested the man who allegedly stabbed a 25- year-old man on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Patrick Wilson of Lot 5 Limlair Village, East Berbice Corentyne.

According to reports, the suspect from Salton Village and Wilson had an argument after he (Wilson) came to the defense of relative who the suspect initially had a dispute with. The incident occurred at approximately 23:00 hrs at a popular drinking spot in Limlair.

An argument followed and Wilson allegedly struck the suspect with an object; moments later the suspect whipped out a knife and Wilson attempted to run but only made it a short distance when he was stabbed to the region of the chest. He collapsed on a heap of white sand and remained there until the Police removed his body hours later.

According to the Mother of Wilson, Camela Surojmohan, 53 she was at home when she received a call from another son relating what occurred.

She said the brothers left the home early Sunday morning and did not return.

Still in shock, the mother said she immediately left for the scene where she saw her son lying in a pool of blood.

The body of the young man was left at the scene for sometime before it was removed in the wee hours of Monday.

The alleged attacker was subsequently arrested and remains in Police custody pending criminal charges.
