A 49-year-old self-proclaimed spiritualist was on Thursday remanded to prison by the Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for allegedly raping a woman who he claimed had “something bad” on her.
Dion Liverpool of Retrieve, Mackenzie, Linden was not required to plea to the charge which was read in camera.
It is alleged that Liverpool on June 2, 2019, engaged in sexual penetration with a 23-year-old woman. He was remanded to prison until June 26 and the matter is transferred to the Linden Magistrate’s Court.
According to reports, Liverpool and a friend went to the victim’s home to give her a spiritual bath during which he had a deck of cards and told her to choose one.
Liverpool allegedly told the woman that “something bad was going to happen” if he does not help her.
It is alleged that Liverpool forced himself on the victim, raped her and told her it had to be done to get rid of the evil force.
It is further alleged that his friend also raped the woman.
After the ordeal, the victim reported the matter to the police and an investigation was launched. The police are currently looking for the second suspect.
